The legend: Need RX7's clean FC shell from Texas
« on: August 22, 2011, 01:05:32 PM »
I realized I spend a lot of time at the Dream Cruise talking about this car, yet I don't think I've really posted much about it on this site. So here's a quick rundown of everything I've done with it in the time I've had it (I can't believe it's been over 2 years!).

Here it is on the way home, somewhere between Texarkana, TX and home.

Home

I did get it to start a couple times by pouring oil directly into the throttle body  :D

Then the engine came out

Then I dropped the front suspension in preparation for new bushing (still haven't gotten around to that yet  ::))

Then I bought stuff:

Then it got moved into the garage after receiving a violation from the city for having a 'junk vehicle' on the property  :D

Then the rear suspension came down, in preparation for more bushing that I haven't bought yet

And that's basically how it sits today. It's up on jackstands with no suspension whatsoever, the interior is ripped out for sound deadening removal (which will be replaced with a dynamat-like substance), the engine bay is painted, and I'm in the process of scraping all the old undercoating off so I can replace it.

As far as parts go, I have:
- S5 n/a engine and all associated manifolds, peripherals, etc
- Most of the gaskets I need
- S4 n/a transmission (the one that came with the car)
- Banzai Racing Oil Pan Brace
- Mazdatrix Oil Pan Baffle Plate
- Exedy 'stage 1' clutch

I need:
- A couple little seals and o-rings for the engine
- Engine, transmission, differential mounts
- suspension bushings (I'll likely go with Energy Suspension)
- 2 Summit RPM switches to get the 6pi and VDI systems working
- I'm thinking about going with an aftermarket radiator since my stock one is pretty ratty
- 5-lug swap
- Tires for the set of TII sawblades I have lying around

and probably a hundred little things I won't remember until the car is almost done.

Hopefully I'll be able to bang it all out over winter and have this beast on the road in the spring.

My car was faded just like that (except blue) and was a NC car, had sat for several years, but ALOT of the rubber was still in good shape. Mine wasn't that rusty but now its going to be...

I haven't really touched it since fall  :-\. It's hard to get motivated in the winter, plus it's been cold in the garage.

I do, however, have all the parts I need to put the complete engine together (water pump, manifolds, etc). I'll definitely have to get around to that one day.

should at least be able to get the engine put together in the comfort of the warm house, minus all of the intake and exhuast crap.  I hear you on the cold.  I have had no motivation to get into my garage and work at all.  Granted i have my red one taking up all of the space and dont have much room for anything else in there.
