Tonight I did a little bit of work on the the car, mostly removed crap we don't need and checked things out.

I took the sending unit out of the fuel tank to get a look at the pump and the tank and the fuel. Half the screws broke off in the tank and look what I found! Gross!

should be salvagable once its cleaned up.  I certainly prefer we use a new fuel cell regardless.

Here are some more pictures of the nastiness.  I think it will all clean up with some muriatic acid,  I just hope it doesn't leak when its done, they are very strict about fuel leaks.

Dang that's nasty, but If you think it will clean out without leaking I'm not gonna worry about it.

I shined a light in there before I started cleaning it and didn't see any bleed through.  I have never seen anything this bad before.  The rust crap on the bottom is about an inch thick.

Does anyone have a sand blasting cabinet? I have one we can setup if someone doesn't already. We need to clean up and paint some parts before it goes back together.

No worries,  I got all the rear suspension stuff cleaned up and painted. I checked the differential out as well. It looks pretty good the plates were at the low end of the spec but should be fine and the ring and pinion showed no abnormal wear. I just need to find a differential mount and the diff and rear suspension can go back in. After I change out the rotted fuel and brake lines of course.

Tonight consisted of playing with a wire wheel brush and chemicals.  Will and I got the tank pretty well cleaned up.  Hydrochloric acid is definitely something dont want to play with on a regular basis, especially in closed spaces.  That stuff worked well in cleaning up the inside of the tank.  We should be posting pics later.

Yeah, the plan is to get started around 10am and get as much done as possible.  I think with all of us working on it, it will go fast.

No leaks. A little more cleaning and painting it should be good to go.

Here is what came out of the tank by hand.
